A multi year multi contract with the worlds largest logistics group which is owned by Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN). The contract was based out of Prague, the Czech Republic and was initially for five months, working with approximately 60 other contractors to build three data centers in the US, Czech Republic and Malaysia. We built new servers in these data centers and migrated applications (mostly internet enabled services) from Linux and HP Unix servers originally located in US and 27 European country data centers.

We contributed a combination of Project Management and hands on system administration skills, working with more than 63 different friendly nationalities, often in multiple timezones and requiring frequent travel and flexability and at times, creative solutions.

The responsibility was all the more challenging as DHL (and its parent, DPWN) were on challenging acquisition spree and we had to quickly integrate dis-similar environments. Sometimes we had to work on undocumented systems which by their very nature managed valuable revenue streams 24x7 so it required careful assessment from our part to ensure low risk, high reward migrations and deployments. One of the largest projects we undertook related to migrating servers located in bonded warehouses in Belgium and the Netherlands to Prague. Each warehouse handled $1million weekly revenue for their respective owners (who contracted DHL for warehouse logistics management so downtime had to be managed carefully to reduce risk and impact across the board.
